Florida cosmetology CE online, built for Board approval
Florida counts online cosmetology CE as home study, and home study only counts if the Board approved it first. The rule sets no seat time clock. It sets a graded exam and tight reporting dates, and that is what we build to.
What Board of Cosmetology requires of an online course
Florida Board of Cosmetology, DBPR. Summarized from the rule text, with the citation for each so you can check it yourself.
- 01
Ten hours in a fixed mix
Rule 61G5-32.001, F.A.C.
Each biennial renewal takes 10 hours: 1 HIV/AIDS, 3 sanitation and sterilization, 0.5 OSHA, 0.5 workers compensation, 2 state and federal laws and rules, 1 chemical makeup, 1 environmental issues and 1 elective.
- 02
Home study needs Board approval first
Rule 61G5-32.001, F.A.C.
Home study and video courses count only if the Board approved them in advance. There is no seat time clock in the rule.
- 03
A written exam graded by you
Rule 61G5-32.001, F.A.C.
Every home study course ends in a written post course exam graded by the provider. It can be open book, and the licensee must score 75 percent.
- 04
Home study reporting date
Rule 61G5-32.001, F.A.C.
Home study completions are due by the 5th of the month after the month the provider received the documentation.
- 05
Statutory reporting windows
s. 455.2178, F.S.
Completions go to DBPR electronically within 30 calendar days. From the 30th day before a renewal deadline, they are due within 10 business days or before the renewal date, whichever comes first.
- 06
Provider application and timing
Rule 61G5-32.001, F.A.C.
The provider application fee is $250, and applications are due 60 days before the next Board meeting.
How the platform is built to it
Your course, on your site, under your name. Every requirement above is a feature, not a promise in the application.
The subject mix as the course map
Lessons are tagged to the eight required subjects with their hour counts, so a full 10 hour package and single subject courses come from the same content.
Provider graded post course exam
The written exam closes every course, open book is allowed, and nothing issues below 75 percent. Every attempt and score is kept for the Board.
Reporting on the right clock
Each completion is queued against the earliest deadline that applies to it: the 5th of next month for home study, or the 10 business day window as a renewal date nears.
A review copy for the Board
We prepare the course documentation and a reviewer login so the Board can see the course and exam before it approves the home study course.
English and Spanish
Both languages run on one platform with the same exam rules, so a Spanish speaking licensee gets the same 75 percent gate.
The path to Board of Cosmetology approval
- 1
Apply to DBPR as a cosmetology CE provider and pay the $250 application fee.
- 2
Submit the home study course for Board approval at least 60 days before the next Board meeting.
- 3
Wait for Board approval before any licensee takes the course for credit.
- 4
Grade each post course exam, then report completions to DBPR on the home study and statutory deadlines.
The terms
We are building one right now for a state-approved online school in Virginia, in English and Spanish, on the same terms.
- One flat fee
- Quoted per course before any work starts. No hourly billing and no surprise line items.
- Final payment on approval
- The last payment is due when the regulator approves the course, so the platform has to pass review before it is paid for in full.
- No per-student fees
- You keep what every enrollment pays. Nothing is skimmed per seat, per certificate or per month of traffic.
- You own it
- The platform, the code and the student records are yours outright, on your site and under your brand.
Questions schools ask
Can Florida cosmetologists take all 10 CE hours online?
Online courses fall under home study, and rule 61G5-32.001 counts home study only when the Board approved it in advance. The course must also end in a provider graded written exam.
Is there a minimum seat time for online cosmetology CE in Florida?
The rule sets no seat time clock. What it sets is the 75 percent exam and the reporting deadlines, so the platform enforces those.
How fast do I have to report completions to DBPR?
Home study completions are due by the 5th of the next month under the rule, and s. 455.2178 caps it at 30 calendar days, or 10 business days near a renewal deadline.
What happens if I report late?
Section 455.2178 allows a fine up to $500 per violation and lets DBPR suspend or revoke provider approval.
How do you charge for the build?
A flat fee per course, quoted first, with the final payment due once the Board approves it. No per student fees, and you own the code. We are building one right now for a state-approved online school in Virginia, in English and Spanish, on the same terms.
